[Tutorial]Restore Settings After Flashing
« on: September 14, 2011, 08:45:02 AM »
Written by raulnayak on DFG main forum.. :)

First of all Thank You DFG for teaching me All these ricks and Learning to flash..This is an Important tutorial for those who are Planning to flash for the first time...So here we go;
Flashing for the first time??Scared of losing all your important data like you texts??Follow this tutorial and you can Restore All the major Information Including your texts, settings and also the main menu arrangement(If you have any)...Now here's a list of the things that you need:
1)Samsung Monte(Or rather any samsung Phone)
2)USB cable
3)Kies AND
4)TKFE [TK File Explorer(I have attached it)]
Connect your phone using the cable and install kies as it includes all the necessary drivers...Now exit the kies program and start TKFE.In it you'l see many folders like exe,user,etc..What you need to do is make a folder like 'phone restore' or wateva and navigate to it from the upper part..By the way..In TKFE,The upper part is for your PC and the lower is for your Phone..What you need to retain you settings is Copy the whole folder named Registry into you pc folder...To backup you texts, navigate to User and copy the whole folder Msg to your pc..And if you want the games copy the Java folder which can be found in EXE folder...Now with the back up all these folders..You can flash your phone..
After flashing, just connect your phone using TKFE and restore the registry, msg and java folders...And when you restart..VOILA!!! All your settings are back!!! Now an important note..It will be impossible to directly paste the folders as the samsung doesnt allow huge files to be copied in its internals so you'l have to manually open each Msg folder and the folders and copy each file into it...Also for the games..You'l have to make the respective games folders yourself and then paste the .jar and .jad files yourself...Copying the registry files will be fine!!
So now I conclude my Post With a BIG THANK YOU for patiently reading my post...Its a very important post so I request the Administrator to Sticky it...

EDIT:
fixed, delete files on the phone first before transfer backup  ;D (Thank u Honda4life)..

Attached file: TkFileExploler 2.2

Tested on S5230 (mmgjk2 fw) and dont know where is problem, but it doesnt work.
Reason? TKFILE EXPLORER gets an error and exits.
(backup was ok, but uploading back to phone not)

Could someone help?

- PC has Win7
- TK File Expl. 2.2
- New Samsung PC STUDIO v 1.5.1.10064_2
- Samsung USB Drivers v1.3.650.0

THX jonny, but still doesnt work.  When copying files one by one, some of them crushes the tkfileexplorer, altough the patch was applied. When copying all files, program crushes as well in the same file...

Some files maybe too big...TKFE cant handle file even as small as 400 kb..It may look be responsive and get stuck but dont do anything..It may look as crashed but its still copying..give it some time..and never copy the whole folder, copy the files one by one...

Oke -> the whole problem is that those REGISTRY FILES has altogether 38kB (so no files larger than 5kB!)
Contains 56files and the only one - the first works with no problem (ASEmailSetting.ini), the second (BluetoothReg.ini) crushes the TKFileExplorer, the third the same... I skip many and test the last one (WidgetStatus.ini) and again crushing.

Dont know if it cause the PC System / pc itself, or diferent build of phone hw, sw or something similar... doesnt work and since today I let it be. So thanks for trying to help me, thanks to all.
