C5220 Firmware Help
« on: July 12, 2010, 09:53:26 PM »
Hi

I've just bought a Samsung C5220 which has Telstra branded firmware.

I'm trying to flash it with generic firmware, but I could only find two firmware files on the net (gsmlibrary):

C5220DVIB3.zip (which according to this excellent post's guide on identifying firmware is the one I got, as Telstra provider code is DV) and
C5220DOID3.zip.

There is no provider or nation in the forum guide for DO, and I am afraid this is another branded firmware rather than a generic one.

Does anyone know which firmware this is? As I would have to pay to download it, I'd like to make sure it's generic first.

Unfortunately I could not find any firmware for my phone on this or related sites...

Thanks!

I took a chance and bought the firmware C5220DOID3.zip.

I successfully flashed my C5220 using the excellent guide from this site, but unfortunately this firmware is from Telecom New Zealand  :'(

Can anyone suggest where to find a generic firmware?  I'll try to post a request in the appropriate forum too,

Thanks!

Hi

I've just bought a Samsung C5220 which has Telstra branded firmware (C5220DVIB3.zip)

I'd love to flash it with generic firmware, but I could only find another firmware files on the net (gsmlibrary):
C5220DOID3.zip (Telecom New Zealand).

Anyone knows where to find a generic (unbranded) firmware?

Thanks!

Are you on Telstra? If you are your phone may not function properly using the generic firmware.

Hi.

Thank you for your reply. No, I'm with 3 but churning soon to TPG (which is a Optus reseller I think?).

I've flashed the phone trying my luck with the Telecom New Zealand fw (I was hoping it was generic) and seems to work well, but it is as branded as Telstra (cannot edit softkeys etc.)

I bought the phone unlocked, I did not realize it was an ex Telstra stock.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have looked ever where and can not find an unbranded firmware. This phones must not have been sold as a non branded handset. I will check around some more but it looks like this one will not have an open market firmware.

Thank you I really appreciate your help and effort.

That would explain why I could not find one either. I was wondering, wouldn't be possible to not flash all the files of a branded firmware, ie. is the branded customization confined to one of the files?

I'm asking as the multiloader allows you to specify  a set of files to upload independently.

Otherwise it looks like I'll be stuck with the Telstra or Telecom NZ logo  :(

Thanks again

You can mix some files but this does not always work. Some files are just too far out of date to mix. Apps, FFS files are the only ones you can mix. You may be able to edit some of the stuff out you do not want but I have no guide for this phones firmware.

Thanks.

I was having a look at the forum, there are instructions etc. to modify the files, I may have a try and see if I can edit the softkeys, as that's the most annoying thing.

Thanks again, this site is awesome.

Modification is a no go I'm afraid. The ffs file does not have the softkeys icons/shortcut. I then tried to open the rc2 files using resman 5.5 but it says that the phone is not yet supported and the rxt file of the S5230 is not good as the images are garbled.

It does not look likely I'll be able to remap my softkeys  :crap:

This is what a lot of users have run into. Samsung has changed the firmware around in such a way it is almost impossible to mod it again.
