Checking the battery with code *#0228# gives me these parameters:
BAT SOC :32.121 [per]
BAT RAW: 55, VF ADC: 0
BAT TEMP ADC:58
RF Therm values: [26, 99]
RF TEMP ADC:66[Raw], 139[Scale
SOC:1.00,5.74,15.70
      29.10,48.50,66.00
V:3300,3570,3700,3760,3810,39
RCOMP :c000

It seems that the deeper you get in the phone, the worse the English and interface gets...

Under gsm information, found with code *#0011#, I get the following parameters:

CampingInformation
--------------------
RPLMN: 204-04
WCDMA 2100 Band 1
FREQ DL:10588 UL :9638
PSC: 165 CELL_ID:0x2c6d91d
RXRSI: -85 ECIO: -4 RSCP:-92
SRVDM: 0 NWOP: 1 DRX: 64
LIMITED SERVICE

Limited service? That doesn't sound good! O_O
Also the RXRSI, ECIO and RSCP values seem to change constantly.

And can anyone maybe tell me what Trace Level is? It's currently set to low. Should I set it to high?

Even though the phone is pretty much a brick like this anyway -_^... you're right.
I'm not touching anything I'm not sure about.

Are my findings of any use though?

Okay, I'm growing tired of my phone's rebooting. I've taken it apart for all the world to see ;).

Okay, this is the first "layer", the board you see when you take the cover off your phone.
The serial numbers are too blurry to read, so I'll write 'em out :).

The big black chip says:
Sandisk
iNAND
SDINC2C2-2G
S92738171
CP0211027SS2 TAIWAN

Fun ;), some NAND flash memory by Sandisk ;).
Nothing obviously faulty here so let's move on to the next layer.

There's our next layer! The little plug in the bottom right of the picture is connected to what seems to be the antenna.

The chip on this board reads:
SAMSUNG         931
KAC0SF008N  AE77

ARM   G410AH   2G
N1107U11        931
       ETEG45FB

Hmm, so an ARM processor?
I also love how there's a big "35" written over the chip.

This is the third layer. There are many small chips here, so I'll name just the bigger ones.

The chip in the left middle is almost shiny black while all the other chips are matte black, it reads:
NEC
MC-10103
925E3604
  ARM

Another ARM processor?

And finally, the chip right above the USB port says:
M
FA972305A
PQ

Here you can see a part of what's most likely the board for the touchscreen. Not much here.

Now I noticed that to the upper left of the shiny black ARM chip on the third board, there's a small (I mean real small, I'd estimate it 5mm in diameter and 2 mm in thickness) button cell battery.
I reckon this is a battery that performs a task similar or deadright equal to the BIOS battery in a computer.
Now a few weeks back, a friend of mine gave me an old pc that he said wasn't booting. Nothing worked. I left it gathering dust for a few weeks, thinking the power supply might be dead (it seemed to be).
It was only after a few weeks that I checked back on it, this time I tried a voltage reading on the BIOS battery, and surely it was dead. I popped in a new battery and suddenly fans started blowing! It was alive!
Well sorta...

But anyway, I haven't dared to take out the button cell in the Jet, but I've tried a direct voltage reading, which gave me roughly 1.6 volts. I know this isn't the right way to get a proper reading, but I didn't want to risk bricking the phone by taking it out before asking around. And I don't think something taking a battery will "give" me a current (and a voltage) rather than suck it.
I don't know a lot about button cells, so I did some research.
From wikipedia, I got a table. I'm having some trouble posting it directly so I'll link you.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Button_cell

It seems that all the button cells have a voltage below that of my reading, except the two that have an "end-point voltage" that is above the reading I got.
Normally I wouldn't be sure about this, but I also noticed that any changes I make in the "hidden" admin menu where CPU speed and other deeper options can be found, aren't saved for some reason.
I've changed the CPU speed a few times, but whenever I'd reboot it, the CPU speed would be set to "dynamic" again. When I scroll back and forth through the admin menu, the settings I changed stay the same, but whenever I take out the battery, put it back in and boot up the phone, everything is set back.

The settings I change in "normal" phone mode stay saved, however.

It seems to me the small button cell is (too) dead (for the phone), and the RAM isn't held.
Perhaps when the phone is on, the RAM memory is fed by the main battery, and when it is off it is fed by the button cell?

I can't make sense of the fact that the phone keeps rebooting though... Anyone?

Also the CR button cells (These are the ones with the end-point voltage at 2.0V), seem to be the most common cel button batteries found in all kinds of (Asian) devices. I suppose the reason for this is that they're cheap.
I wouldn't be surprised if the battery in the phone is of the cheap kind. It would be the perfect scenario: 999/1000 or more people would never open up their phone or give up after they did and buy a new phone or send it for repair, plus Samsung cuts the cost on the batteries. Big business!

On a final note, after some more research, I've found this on wikipedia:
"The memory and real-time clock are generally powered by a CR2032 lithium coin cell."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nonvolatile_BIOS_memory

I found this on wikpedia, and it seems to be referring mainly to PC BIOS.
"Nonvolatile BIOS memory refers to a small memory on PC motherboards that is used to store BIOS settings."
It would make sense if they used the same type of button cell in phones though.

Again, my apologies for the monstrous read . I hope this helps someone :).

Right now I've taken the entire phone apart ;).
The battery says: ML414RM. It's branded "Panasonic" and made in Japan...
Now I'm getting 2.24 V as reading.

A little googling shows the battery should indeed be 3V and that it is a manganese lithium coin cell battery.
I'm now going to try to get a replacement somewhere. I'll post the results when I get a new battery and have installed it :).

I was initially suprised to find that the battery wasn't loose but actually attached to what appeared to be the contacts of the phone. But apparantly this is how it is sold.

It seems to be virtually impossible to get these batteries in small quantities, as they are OEM.
I'm getting loads of shady Chinese companies and trading websites. The smallest quantity for sale I've seen so far was some 300-ish. Not going to happen.

I decided to rip the battery out of the phone and right now I'm charging it with my power supply ;).
The voltage seems to be going up gradually.

Now I have to worry about reinstalling it...  O_O

I just reinstalled the small battery. Sadly, the phone is still not working -_^.
Somehow I messed up the sound too... I'll look into that later.

I'm done for now -_^.

i know for a fact that the processor speed always resets to dynamic if switched off, this is normal.

does it reboot with sd card out... also is there any jpg's stored on the phone that were not part of the reflash
ie : it has been known that  faulty image files (.jpg's) to cause shutdowns.

CEJJ3 is the most stable firmware, have you tried this one... and what battery strength is displayed when you can keep it in the keypad screen long enough...

good luck

Ah okay. That makes sense.

There's no sd card in the phone.
Yes I've heard of problems due to faulty image files. I've connected to Samsung Kies while in the keypad mode and it seems to tell me there aren't any image files present on the phone.
There don't appear to be any files on the phone when checking through the phone itself.

Also it appears that getting into keypad mode, waiting for the screen to turn off and then pressing the cube button twice allows me to stay in the menu for a while. It just crashed on me when I tried to scroll, though. The screen froze halfway the scroll and after a few seconds the phone crashed.

CEJJ3 is the most stable firmware, have you tried this one... and what battery strength is displayed when you can keep it in the keypad screen long enough...

I've just flashed the Jet to this firmware. Now when it would normally reboot the phone simply turns off...
Nothing else seems to have changed, except the firmware of course ;).
The phone has now crashed on me before saying "Welcome to 3g". I'm quite sure this has never happened before.
It also seems that the phone stays in this message longer than before: when normally it would reboot after displaying "Welcome to 3g" for about 4 seconds, it now keeps the message in the screen for about 6 seconds before it shuts down.

In keypad mode the phone displays the same battery juice level as it does in the charging mode.
It seems like this is working just fine.

good luck

Addy

Thank you :). I'll need it.

I'm at it again . I've had no luck fixing anything so far...

However... -Drums- I've made a discovery! While I haven't gotten to the home screen again since I flashed the Jet... I've tried inserting an old SIM card I had lying around.
I booted the phone up and yes! I got to the PIN code screen! Now this is nothing special in itself, but the interesting bit is that the phone does NOT reboot in the PIN screen. I can even lock the phone without it rebooting.
The touch screen's calibration seems to be a bit off at times, I managed the unlock the phone both by drawing an "h" and holding the lock button on the screen.
After plugging it into the charger, it even charged and gave the charging animation!
The clock works too, despite the fact that it's set to 0:00, january 1st.

But when I enter the pin... the phone shows the "welcome to 3g" screen aaaaand! Reboots... -.-'

I've redone it twice now, and three times it has crashed while telling me welcome... Oh sweet irony.

I really hope this information means something to at least one person on this forum.
It should at least help a bit right? I haven't read about this particular thing yet :).
I hope at least a few people are tracking this thread :x.

I'm currently looking into buying a new motherboard. I've contacted the seller for details.
I'll keep you guys updated on my progress! ^_^
