Hi there. Just registered here and after rooting and s-off'ing my XE but I'm still without a custom rom, because I'm so confused by it all.

I have CWM 4.0.1.4

I want to use this custom rom but I am confused when i have to 'lash' my firmware. Is this a seperate thing i need to do before i some how install the 419mb rom?

I'm not generally a newbie at technology, but for some reason this is going straight over my head.

Hey Atomicjake!  Good thing you found this rom. I don't know if Jonny will allow if I post some link here. To make it short just upgrade the firmware for ICS and you can flash 419mb rom. But you should really try this rom. It's very very stable.

 firstly I would suggest you use 4EXT Recovery Touch, it is just better than CWM.
 to upgrade the firmware, place the PG58IMG.zip on root of sd-card then boot into hboot and follow the onscreen steps.
 
 to flash the ROM, boot into recovery and select install update from file, then choose the DarkForest Sensation XE ICS 5.1.0.zip file from your sd card and the ROM will flash
 
 also for now it looks like the server hosting my FTP account is down and I am working to provide a mirror as soon as I can

If i just keep CWM and select the new rom file... its as easy as that?

 If you have done the firmware before, I would suggest do it again just in case you got the wrong file.
 if you have already downloaded the ROM, you don't need to wait for me to get a mirror working, just copy the file to sd card.
 for the CWM recovery, you can use it but the interactive install script will use default value of "no" because CWM does not support interaction. therefore I suggest download the 4EXT updater app from market and update your recovery to 4EXT Recovery Touch

I got the 4ext recovery touch and updated the pg58img file in my phone and it all started to go wrong.

from that point it kept booting up and restarting half way through the beats logo swirl.

so i downloaded the ICS 5.1.5 rom and installed that. now  the beats logo just hangs there?

i found the thread with the soloution on xda developers website http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1423684&page=5

so now what do i do?

my phone just hangs on the beats logo. help please

sorted, just super wiped and flashed pg58img and installed the 5.1.5 custom rom many times and heard a beep and now all is well. thanks

Is anyone else having the problem of being unable to connect your PC and Phone together after S Offing, Rooting, SuperCIDing, Firmware, Radio updating, and then last but not least running the Darkforest 5.2.0 install program?  Everything else works perfectly - no problems at all with mobile or wifi reception, really speedy performance and only a slight issue with android.process.acore closes immediately after the install which was sorted by wiping data cache from within recovery.
In short the problem is that I cannot mount the phone as disk drive or even get HTC Sync to recognise it (which I don't care about HTC ) - the usual notification which appears to let you choose which mode to connect to the PC with just doesn't appear.  Very frustrating as the rest of this ROM is so good. 
Any ideas?

Using Win 7 and had no problems when using LeeDroid, HTC Stock and other Gingerbread ROMs previously, also tried several USB cables which I've tested as working with my significant other's smartphone.

UPDATE: Actually it's ok now - all working after I Superwiped and installed again. lol.
