S8000 touch screen oddity
« on: August 21, 2011, 10:00:14 PM »
Hi,
I am and have been using a samsung s8000 for the past year or so now. Just recently it has been quite frequently acting up. The touch screen seems to be responding in a different location to that which I pressed. So I did the expected recalibration when I got a chance to no avail. Puzzled I examined how the resistive screens work. My conclusion was that there must be something either between the membrane and the screen which you actually touch causing the problem. So logically, relieving some of the preassure from the effected side would be a solution, someway to slightly lift the effected side. Applying preassure and pushing inward on the non-effected side would cause the effected side to slightly lift in the desired manner. So I applied preassure on the left hand side of the phone, at the top where the visible are of the screen starts, by inserting my fingernail into the gap between the silver rim and the screen. Low and behold it worked. The screen regained it's touch responsiveness. Although I had to keep my finger nail in place otherwise it would revert back to it's previous state.
So anybody having a little trouble out there, try this and if this works I would say that the touch screen is not broken and there must be some way to perform a clean up of the membrane in order to remove any moisture.

I had the same problem, but because the phone comes with a 24 month warranty (Thanks, Samsung) I took it back to the CPH and they organised a rapid exchange. They'll get a refurbished phone sent out to you and swap it over with your broken phone. Turnover is about 24 hours.

Also, I explained the problem to the assisnt behind the counter, and lo and behold, when she went to check the phone, it was working.

Also, the phone is being delivered to the shop, so I got to keep my phone for the moment (handy for removing all data from it) and when CPW call me to let me know the replacement has arrived, I just take the current one in and swap them over.

Maybe @v85rawdeal's solution is the most sure-shot one, but you should try to "massage" the screen, or put to the freezer (I'm not joking!) for a few mins.
