water damage
« on: October 28, 2010, 10:40:52 PM »
i accidentally dropped my mobile phone (samsung wave 8500) on the toilet...got all wet...dried the phone, tried the rice thingy to dry it...it powered up but cant seem to make the apps work and the wifi is turned on all the time. when i turn it off, i have a hard time getting it to power back on. brought it to the shop, lo and behold they didnt even try to repair it. reason being that it was bought on the duty free shop on changi airport...no warranty on singapore if i understand the repairman correctly. im going to try to have it repaired in the philippines..

question: given the state of the phone, (turns on but cant make the apps work, wifi on all the time, having hard time powering it up again from being turned off) can i still expect the phone to be repaired? and where can i find the water damage indicator on this phone? thanks.

Hi, I have a gts8500 too :)
I dropped it in my sink, dried it, and it worked fine untill I rebooted it just to check. All hell broke loose then (lots of fizzing circuitry in phone, camera hole condensating up, hard time switching on too) so I sent it to a samsung servicing factory. I did this through Vodafone (my service provider). However, the phone was sent back with a note explaining that the insides of the phone were coroded and therefore they weren't going to do anything about it. (you cannot claim warantee for reason of your fault, I.im dropping it in water, so I didn't say about dropping it in the water to the Vodafone member, who eventuually sent the phone to the service centre. However, I looked at the phone, and lo and behold, it started up again and worked perfectly,, although according t:-)o Samsung the circuits were corroded beyond repair. I think you just knees to wait a bit for all the water you can't get out of the phone to slowly evaporate/dissipate. (this water you may not nessesarilly have sensed , I.e. You already thought you had cleaned out all the water)
