Wifi connects but internet does not work

i purchased i9000 (2.1 based) yesterday. it connects to my wifi router but none of the applications (browser, android market, ..) can access internet.
Wireless status shows wifi is connected and also shows its IP address. in fact, i can successfully ping to i9000 from other laptop.

Wifi router (linksys)  has security enabled and i have configured the password/ pin in the i9000 correctly. my laptop can successfully connect to internet through the wireless router.

Has anybody faced this problem?
Any solutions?

I have had to factory reset my phone yesterday because of similar behavior, now fully working

This procedure will remove any apps you may have got from the Apps market and delete calender, contacts, memo etc etc, so backup before proceeding

Copy contacts to sim card if you can and make sure battery is resonably charged, I cannot be held responsible if for any data loss.


To perfrom a factory reset;

Select

1) Settings

2) Privacy

3) Factory Data reset

The handset will go through the process of resetting everything, Good luck.

Thanks! i did factoiry reset but it did not help.

i took the phone to samsung service center and there it connected to their wireless modem and also accessed internet.

So it seems there is no problem with the phone settings per se, but rather with the wireless router. I have Linksys Cisco wireless WRH54G router.

Anyone is aware of any known issues?

Right friend, I came across a router that showed the same problem that you are experiancing (this was a brand new TP-LINK router)

If the router you are using is running in mixed mode type,  then set the router to G only and not b, g, N and it should stop dropping the connection.

When my router was broadcasting in 'N' mode I would experience wifi dropping constantly on my galaxy s. Once I switched to B & G mode ONLY, this is when I wasn't getting dropped any longer.

You shouldn't have to do this to your router but at least the wifi connection stays connected and wont drop.

HOW the router can be changed

Depending on what router you're using.


Try accessing any of these addresses using your internet browser:
192.168.0.1
192.168.0.100
192.168.0.0


If you still can't manage to connect to your router via these addresses, just refer to the user manual. It should also state the default password and username for your router. That should do the trick.


If you are unable to find neither an address neither a username and password, google them up according to your router model (usually written on a sticker on the router).
